Chicago’s City of Learning

The first effort of its kind to take place in a major city in the United States, Chicago City of Learning (CCOL) is a groundbreaking initiative that joins together learning opportunities for young people in a way that allows them to think about, pursue, and develop their interests. CCOL breaks down the false barriers between learning that happens in school and learning that happens outside of school. Through CCOL, young people can take new paths of discovery, explore the city's rich resources, and find out what they can learn, make, do, and ultimately become. CCOL grew out of the city’s 2013 Chicago Summer of Learning in which more than 100 youth-serving organizations joined together to make their programs visible. Youth participants earned digital badges that provide permanent recognition of the achievements made by youth through their activities.

Maine State of Learning

Learn Anywhere. Make it count. Maine State of Learning is a project fueled by public and private partnerships across the state of Maine to provide more learning opportunities to Maine citizens of all ages, recognize the learning that occurs through digital badges, and connect the learning to statewide proficiencies, career pathways, and personal goals.

Aurora Public Schools

Aurora Public School students have the opportunity to demonstrate their achievement of 21st century skills acquired not only in traditional academic settings but also in their communities and job experiences. Digital badges help students tell a story about what they know and what they can do.

Worlds of Learning

Worlds of Learning @ New Milford High School provides a framework that allows teachers to earn digital badges through learning about technology tools and applications as well as applying their learning to instruction to improve learning outcomes. This evidence-based platform has been designed so that its resources prepare educators to fully leverage the potential for mastering digital age skills embodied in the ISTE standards for Teachers.
